John 14:17…You know him, for he dwells with you, and will be in you.

AS D.A Carson says in his commentary, ‘the Holy Spirit is to be experienced’.

It cannot be a coincidence that:

1. Mainline USA Christianity has completely removed itself from teaching this, instead preferring to focus on the Word, and only the Word. In part, because it’s easier to teach something you know, because seminaries are about knowledge, and wisdom cannot be taught. An indwelling Holy Spirit that you know, isn’t the Holy Spirit that the Southern Baptists want you to know.

2. Pentecostalism’s rapid growth outside of the USA.

As we move away from core truths about the Holy Spirit, then we have a dying religion, based on a book, and nothing more, it’s hard to be excited about Christianity when life seems to be in a book.

The words of the Bible are to be lived, not explained away. We have seminary professors with enormous knowledge, who explain away the parts of the Bible they don’t like.
